Aims of FOMM:

The Festival of Moving Media (FOMM), running annually on the first weekend of November, features films and videos that offer a global perspective and provide a broader viewpoint of day-to-day events. Mandated to present a major, annual, cultural event for Guelph and the surrounding community, the Festival provides a venue for the work of diverse international artists and activists whose work is not necessarily considered in the mainstream. The festival also serves as a catalyst towards increasing community understanding of the world and its diversity. The goal is also to encourage co-operation between community groups in Guelph and Southern Ontario.

2. COMMITMENT TO ADDRESS ETHICAL ISSUES
We actively seek opportunities to work together with external organizations to achieve shared objectives. However it is vital that we maintain our independence and do not allow external partnerships to bring the name of FOMM into disrepute.
FOMM therefore seeks, so far as is practical and within the constraints of Canadian law;

  • initiatives that do not compromise the independent status of FOMM
  • to ensure that the activities of organizations we work with are consistent with our organizational values

This policy has been devised to ensure clarity and openness to all. It is designed to address sponsorship as it pertains to donations, gifts in kind and related marketing.

3. AVOIDANCE CRITERIA
Partnerships with companies involved in any of the following activities will be avoided:

  • tobacco manufacture
  • weapons and weapons systems manufacture
  • companies generating revenue from the sale of pornography
  • political parties
  • Any organization or company that actively contributes to ecological damage, including genetically modified farming

All potentially contentious new marketing and sponsorship relationships must be approved by the Festival’s Steering Committee and the Guelph International Resource Centre Board of Directors.
Contracts with partners must permitFOMM to withdraw from any partnership where new developments mean that areas of this ethical sponsorship policy become breached.

4. TRANSPARENCY
A full list of sponsors will be maintained on our website.
FOMMwill communicate its commitment to this policy by displaying a copy on our website within 3 months of its adoption.
