Discovered in the parking lots of North Vancouver’s supermarkets, and filmed hanging off the rear of stolen shopping carts, the homeless, bottle-collecting men of Murray Siple’s documentary bomb down the steep mountain streets of North Van at 50 km/hr, screaming with glee and the competitive spirit of what has been coined the extreme sport of cart racing. Drawn by their outlaw energy, Siple follows his often drunk, thrill-seeking subjects to the margins of society. His camera captures the ups and downs of cart racing, bearing witness to lives made in the urban bush - men who maintain their freedom and subsist on the spoils of can and bottle collecting. Gorgeous and compassionate, a film rife with questions about contemporary city living.
